A car wash organized by the boy’s soccer team was held in front of the Klein Collins Football Stadium on Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. With more than 100 cars washed and $1,800 raised, the car wash was a success, according to boy’s soccer coach Darrell Hamlett.

“It was a great turn out. Lots of people came and the boys worked very hard,” Hamlett said. “We lucked out this year. Drama was hosting a garage sale in the parking lot also, so people would stop at both.”

The goal for the fundraiser was to purchase new uniforms and replace warm up jerseys. “The new jerseys will be lighter and more breathable,” senior Trinidad Peña said. “They’ll make us faster.”

The varsity team hands down their old jerseys to the junior varsity team every few years, but it has been eight years since they have had new navy uniforms.

“The new jerseys will make us look more professional and really committed,” junior William Ramsey said. “They are going to be the same design of the German team that played in the 2014 World Cup.”

To advertise for the car wash, players from all grades collaborated to make posters and pre-sold tickets for $10.

“It’s really difficult to sell tickets to people that aren’t your family,” junior Noah Forbes said. “You’re never for sure which people are just going to tell you no.”

The soccer team was able to collect donations from those unable to attend the car wash.

This marks the third year for the team to hold a car wash, and each year has been a success according to Peña. The team plans to organize another car wash at the end of the season.
