Walking In: In Texas’ warm, sunny weather, Spring Snow welcomes customers to enjoy a chilled dessert. From the outside of the small store you can see the colorful patterned decorations. As customers walk in, the employees shout from the counter, “Welcome to Spring Snow!” and greet them with a friendly smile. As you step up to the counter there is a giant menu on the wall to the right. There are options for creating your own “snow”, a combination of shaved ice and ice cream, as well as specialty snows.

The Design: The design of the entire place was so amazing. The owners fit many unique aspects into the tiny shop. From the outside of the store the whole design could be seen. To the right, when you walk in, there are benches with pillows surrounding the tables. To the left of the tables and benches, were taller tables and chairs, and above these were framed photos and drawings. In front of the counter, customers can watch the employees shave your snow and top it, which was interesting to watch. I would consider the overall design of the shop as relaxed, funky and unique.

The Snow: Spring Snow serves a unique dessert, which is a cross between shaved ice and ice cream that they call “snow”. To create the snow, a combination of milk and fresh fruit is blended together and frozen for eight hours. When you order the snow, it is freshly shaved and topped with whatever kind of drizzle and toppings. The snow is so light and creamy that it melts in your mouth. You can choose from a variety of flavors or specialty combinations. I chose to order two bowls: the “Pink Eskimo” and to create my own. Both snows I ordered were strawberry-flavored, and both were tasty and refreshing. The dessert was like a cloud full of snow, the perfect cool temperature, not overly cold like shaved ice, and it melts in your mouth. The one thing I was not fond of about the snow is it melts in your mouth too fast to taste much flavor. Other than the snow melting too fast for my taste, it tasted amazing.

Toppings: At Spring Snow, you can choose from a variety of toppings and drizzles to add to your snow, and not all are your typical toppings. The toppings range from traditional American sweets to Japanese marshmallows. The Pink Eskimo I ordered was a strawberry snow topped with condensed milk drizzle and frosted flakes cereal. When I created my own snow bowl, I chose strawberry snow topped with condensed milk, tapioca, mochi and cookies and cream pocky sticks. The most interesting toppings I chose were tapioca pearls. Another interesting topping I chose was strawberry-and vanilla-flavored mini mochi.

Final Opinion: My trip to Spring Snow was a unique experience. I went in not expecting much because it is new and a small shop, but the service, design and snow exceeded my expectations. From the fun colors of the place, and the comfy seating, to the taste of the snow, I enjoyed every aspect of my first visit to Spring Snow. In conclusion, Spring Snow is a great place to hang out with family and friends while getting to enjoy a refreshing, chilly, unique and tasty dessert that I think everyone should try at least once.
