Skills USA is hosting a community service project to clean up the Cypress Creek bike trails on Nov. 3 from 7:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. They will be removing trash, trimming small branches, and leveling the dirt to make the trails safe for riders.

The main goal of the clean-up is to remove sand that Harvey dumped on the trail last year. Criminal justice teacher Christopher Duncan and senior Candi Lares, the leads on the project, are asking for volunteers to bring water, gloves, and 5 gallon paint buckets to store the sand in.

The meet-up point is at the dead end of West Cypress Forest Drive, where there are a hundred parking spots for volunteers. Overflow parking will be directed to the nearby YMCA, although Duncan does encourage carpooling. Food will be provided by PDQ Chicken and t-shirts are provided by Planetary Cycle.

If you are interested in participating but can’t make it, they are looking for donations of water and paint buckets. If you want to make monetary donations to the cause, please visit The Greater Houston Off Road Biking Association (GHORBA) ‘s website.

For students interested in volunteering, please follow this link to sign up. This ensures you will get lunch and the first 50 to sign-up will get a free t-shirt.
