The Popeyes vs Chick-fil-A debate raged on last year in August with the release of the Popeyes chicken sandwich. Its launch started a huge Twitter feud that earned Popeyes an estimated $65 million worth of free advertising, according to Apex Marketing Group. This debate provoked a nationwide shortage of the new chicken sandwich, causing Popeyes restaurants to run out after just two weeks of its release. It finally came back two months later. Despite Chick-fil-A pioneering chicken sandwiches, the Popeyes chicken sandwich is better in nearly every single way.

The Popeyes chicken sandwich is juicier and more crispy than Chick-fil-A’s, giving it more flavor. Unlike the Chick-fil-A sandwich, which is prone to getting soggy, the Popeyes sandwich remains fresh. Instead of the classic bun, soft and slightly sweet, sported by Chick-fil-A’s sandwich, the Popeyes sandwich has a brioche bun. This gives it a unique flavor and helps protect the bun from being flattened.

The price of both sandwiches is similar, with Chick-fil-A’s priced at $3.79 and Popeyes’ at $3.99. Popeyes’ chicken sandwich is also considerably bigger than Chick-fil-A’s. Despite the similar price, the standard Popeyes chicken sandwich packs a lot more calories, making it more worth the money.

Regardless of the quality of chicken and size, the Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich offers more options in terms of sauces. Both sandwiches offer the standard and spicy option, but Chick-fil-A does carry more sauces, even carrying their own Chick-fil-A sauce. On the spicy Popeyes chicken sandwich, the actual chicken isn’t spicy; the mayo on top is. This leaves only one sauce that separates the standard chicken sandwich from the spicy, not allowing for many different options.

The Popeyes chicken sandwich, through taste and size, is better than the Chick-fil-A sandwich. Though Chick-fil-A may have been the first to serve chicken sandwiches, the Popeyes chicken sandwich is undeniably better.
