The seventh installment of the “Star Wars” series introduces new characters as well as featuring familiar faces.

“Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens,” was released on December 18, 2015 and has since taken the world by storm. The seventh installment in the series, directed by J.J. Abrams, features unreal graphics and introduces pivotal new characters alongside all-time favorites to inaugurate an epic battle of good versus evil. “The Force Awakens” is undeniably a great tribute to the past “Star Wars” movies and excels on almost every level, save for the predictability of the plot.

“The Force Awakens” begins with an attack by the First Order, a military power searching for the map to Luke Skywalker with the intention of finding him and destroying the Jedi, allowing the evil Sith to prevail. Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, is introduced as the series’ new protagonist and plays a powerful role in fighting for the Resistance. Rey is accompanied by a drone containing the map to Skywalker and a runaway stormtrooper, Finn, who is played by John Boyega. Stormtroopers loyal to the First Order hunt Finn, Rey and the drone to retrieve the map, and throughout the movie, the epic battle of the First Order versus the Resistance continues.

Ridley and Boyega convey their naïve yet strong characters perfectly, and appearances from Leia Organa, played by Carrie Fisher, and Han Solo, played by Harrison Ford, connects new characters and the old. Connections are also made to the old movies through the soundtrack by including the original “Star Wars” theme song.

While “The Force Awakens” definitely lives up to the deserved popularity of every other previously produced “Star Wars” movie, it was rather predictable, even for a person who has never laid eyes upon a single “Star Wars” movie. While a very intriguing plot is established, the main focus of the entire movie is, unfortunately, a very heartbreaking reveal, and the plot is used as more of a filler.

The reveals in this movie were not nearly as appalling as say the discovery that Darth Vader was Skywalker’s father, so do not expect a huge “ah” moment.

Overall, J.J. Abrams fantastically filmed one of the sci-fi classics that continue to wow the nation since the release of the very first “Star Wars” movie in 1977. “Star Wars” fan or not, this is a must-see movie for all.
