The school’s Key Club co-hosted Brunch with Santa with Benchmark Bank in the Woodlands on Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We partnered with our sponsor club, Noon Kiwanis Club, to work this event together,” Key Club sponsor Courtney De Leon said. “The whole community was invited to Brunch with Santa, but our Key Club sold specifically to the Klein district.”
There were a number of different stations at the event, including arts and crafts, tree decorating and face painting.
“Families that came to the event got the chance to socialize with others,” senior Chieh Yin Li said. “They were also given the opportunity to meet and take photos with Santa.”
Kids were given the chance to eat pancakes and drink smoothies provided by Smoothie King.
“I enjoyed watching [the kids’] eyes light up when Santa walked into the room,” junior Benita Lalani said. “It was also fun seeing how excited they became when telling Santa what they would like for Christmas as well.”
Sophomore Elene Thomas relished in being able to show the joy and kindness of the holiday season.
“I [enjoyed] helping the younger children, showing them Santa and providing ‘reindeer food,’” Thomas said. “[The kids] learned that acts of kindness for the community are done all year round, 24/7. It’s cool being a role model to a younger generation.”
Each ticket for the event cost $6 and a portion of the proceeds made by Key Club went to Project Eliminate.
“I enjoyed the fact that the money earned was going to Project Eliminate,” Lalani said. “[Project Eliminate] is geared towards providing mothers and children with the necessary vaccines which they may not be able to afford otherwise.”
The Brunch with Santa event is the biggest fundraiser of the year, allowing Key Club to raise money and the members get volunteer hours, according to De Leon.
“It’s so much fun seeing the kids get so excited,” De Leon said. “It’s so fun to see everyone enjoying the holiday season.”
