“Thor: Ragnarok” is definitely the best Thor movie that Marvel has ever made. With non-stop comedy and action from the very beginning, it kept me guessing about what was going to happen next and had me guessing wrong. There was a nice mix of new and returning characters to the film, and new director, Taika Waititi, did a great job of blending comedy into even the most dramatic parts of the movie without it being overkill. “Thor: Ragnarok” is arguably the greatest Marvel movie of all time and continues Marvel’s perfect streak of successful movies.

One of the reasons for the success was that Marvel brought in new director, Taika Waititi, for the third and final installment in the Thor franchise. Waititi is known for making comedies, and kept me laughing from the very first minute to the last. One of the best examples of this is the gladiator scene where Thor is forced to fight the Grandmaster’s greatest and most vicious champion in the Contest of Champions. The Grandmaster’s champion happens to be Thor’s frenemy, the Hulk. The funniest character proves to be Waititi himself. Waititi plays Korg, a giant humanoid rock creature that opens up every contest of champions. Almost every time Korg opens his mouth, expect to let loose a few laughs. Overall, there was not a dull character in this movie, which really helped set it apart from other movies in the genre.

Comedy was not the only thing “Thor: Ragnarok” excelled at, as there were some amazing action sequences that kept me on the edge of their seats. The action scenes in this movie were made even better by the amazing special effects. Two of the biggest fight scenes in the movie were Thor taking on the Hulk in the Contest of Champions and the final fight to save the people of Asgard. But the scene that set the biggest tone for the movie was the introduction of the new villain Hela. After Hela takes out Thor and Loki, she goes on a murderous rampage against Asgard, and nobody is safe. The effects team outdid themselves with all of the different people, weapons and shots used to take the scene.

Hela is the first female villain in all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and was played to perfection by Cate Blanchett. Hela’s only competition for greatest villain in the MCU is none other than Thor’s brother, Loki. Blanchett steals almost every scene she is in and is an extremely menacing, powerful and unpredictable opponent. Hopefully, she can make a return in another Marvel movie because she is too good of a character to use for only one movie.

Hela was not the only standout character in “Thor: Ragnarok.” There were a few other new and returning characters that ate up the screen whenever they got the chance. Chris Hemsworth gave his best performance as Thor yet, and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has never been more funny and deceiving. Newcomer Tessa Thompson played the fierce warrior named Valkyrie and stole almost as much of the screen as Hela. Somebody that could have used a little more screen time was Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk was great as usual, although hearing the Hulk talk a lot was a little weird. There was not a boring character in this movie, and everybody’s performance makes the audience want even more.

Overall, “Thor: Ragnarok” was a great way to end the Thor trilogy, and it was a great way to lead up to “Avengers: Infinity War,” which comes out in 2018. The movie was well-paced and provided a great balance of unpredictability, comedy and action. Every new, returning and side character in this movie performed perfectly and made sure that the audience could not get enough. This is arguably the greatest Marvel, or even superhero, movie ever made, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, even non superhero fans.
