For the first time since 2009, the men’s soccer team has made it to District Playoffs. The team has fought through 20 games so far, collecting a total of 12 wins, 7 losses and one draw.

Sophomore team member Isaac Chandler attributes the as of yet successful season partially to the fact that the team has matured.

“At the beginning of the year, I wasn’t sure if we could make it,” he said. “After seeing the starting team and practicing with them, I realized we had transformed into not only teammates, but a family. We really came together and got down to business.”

The team has been preparing for this moment since before the season started. They are confident that all their work has done them well.

“We’ve been throwing in hard work since off-season,” senior Hussein Hoteit said. “It feels good to finally know that all those practices are paying off. I knew we could do it.”

Coach Darrell Hamlett agrees wholeheartedly, admiring the effort his talented players have contributed.

“They have really worked hard this season and it has paid off,” he said. “In years past, we have come up short, but the team has been putting in practice time since last summer and all through off-season. We have been scoring pretty consistently, which helps.”

The entire team is ecstatic about their accomplishments, especially Chandler.

“It’s a thrill knowing we are where we are,” he said. “It’s like living up to a childhood dream of mine. When I was younger, I would go watch my brothers play and I always aspired to be as good as they were. And here I am.”

The team is in high hopes for the games to come, expansion, growing as brothers and most of all, starting a new legacy.
