One of the most common criticisms of the American school system is that schools are not teaching students important life skills that they’ll need in the future. This is why Klein ISD is offering a class that teaches kids the life skills that they’ll need in the future: Principles of Human Services (PHS).
PHS is a class that is designed to make sure kids will learn life skills that will help them out in the future. From financial skills to personal care to mental health, PHS is there to make sure students learn valuable life skills to make sure they’ll succeed in their adult lives.
“I took this class because I thought it would be easy, I did not know what to expect,” freshman Amy Hernandez said.
Most kids go into the class thinking it just teaches them skills like fashion and interior design seeing as they are on those designated pathways. However, PHS offers so many more valuable life lessons necessary for adulthood that other students miss out on learning.
The class is a good way for students who don’t have a trusted parental figure to sit down and teach them these valuable skills. Some kids are thrown out into the real world and expected to pick up on these lessons as life goes on; however, some students can’t pick up on these skills and require help.
PHS is a good class for those kids who need these critical skills but maybe don’t have a reliable adult to teach them. It’s a class that helps all students learn critical skills to succeed in the working world and teaches them how to properly manage their life with lessons on things like finances and cooking.
“It’s really not that hard but like, it’s kind of fun, and super easy, I’m glad I used it as one of my electives,” Hernandez said.
