Taking on the Mustangs of Magnolia West on their home field usually intimidates players. Tiger Gold looked to stay perfect in district play while the JV Navy looked to bounce back from a hard-fought loss against Tomball.
Gold started off fast on the offensive side of the ball by scoring early and often. The Tigers would score on their first play on offense when quarterback sophomore Kyle Beaudet threw a deep pass to Colton Locke for a touchdown. Tiger Running backs freshman Austin Terry, sophomores Austin Yates, Jahmere Lundy-Curry and Orlando Smith would all add rushing touchdowns as well. The Tiger offense was only matched by its unbreakable defense. A stripe of Tigers were around the ball on every tackle and prevented the Mustangs from reaching the endzone the entire game. JV Gold would win the game 34-0.
Navy came out swinging from the start of the game against the Mustang defense. Junior Elijah Whitfield accounted for three rushing scores behind the Hawgs of the offensive line and crushing blocks by stand-out fullback sophomore Landon Hedrick.
The defense was able to shut down the rushing attack of the Mustangs and gave up only a single score when they were caught out of position on a screen play. Defensive stand out junior Brandon Dowd did his job in the secondary.
After the game, according to Coach Fontenette, he was pleased with both teams as it was ‘a total team effort’ from both the gold and navy teams.
