AFJROTC Drill Team wins Salute to Veterans Overall Meet Championship
The AFJROTC Drill Team attended the Sheldon ISD Salute to Veterans Drill Meet on Nov. 16 and won several awards, including the Overall Meet Championship.
The Unarmed Team, commanded by senior Natalie Medrano, took home three trophies, including first place in Inspection.
“Inspection is where they ask us questions about the Commander-in-Chief, the Secretary of Defense, and other things like that,” Medrano said. “Everything went really well. We actually ended up proving the guy who was inspecting us wrong.”
To win the Overall Meet Championship, the team had to beat 16 other schools. The Armed Team, commanded by senior Tommy Landreneau, won three first place trophies and the Male Color Guard, commanded by senior Ryan Pritchard, also won first place.
“They’re all hard-working and it really paid off in this meet,” sophomore drill team member Jackie Chan said.
The drill team has another meet in February, as well as the Air Force National JROTC Drill Championships in March. Medrano has high hopes for the competition.
“My goal for this year is to win the national competition,” Medrano said.
