Any student who has been to enough football games knows how large of a role the marching band plays in generating the energy of the night. Not only do they march on the field to perform their show, which this year is called “Connecting the Dots,” but they also take up a whole section of the stands to play up-beat music and fire up the crowd.
Much more goes into marching band than football games, even though that takes up a portion of the band’s tasks. The fall semester is called ‘Bandtober’ for a reason; band events, rehearsals, and competitions take up the whole three months. When they aren’t lugging their field props and instruments to football games for the entertainment of high school sports fans, the Tiger Band is busy getting their contest on.
On Tuesday Oct. 17, the marching band attended UIL Region at Woodforest Stadium, where they received an all-one rating. Before they could achieve this, though, members spent the day rehearsing in the school lot and loading the semi-trailer, which houses all the big field equipment. Plenty of work went into the success, so it was well-deserved.
This victory at Region qualified them to move on to Area, which took place Saturday, Oct. 21. At Area, there were a total of 24 schools represented from different Region competitions. Unfortunately, the Tiger Band will not be continuing to State, but this does not mean the end of “Bandtober.”
There are still two scheduled football games, where the band will be performing their halftime show, ‘Connecting the Dots.’ The first is an away game at Tomball High School on Friday, Oct. 27. The final game, excluding the potential for playoffs, is a home game against Klein High on Nov. 3.
