Student finds “The Knife of Never Letting Go” impossible to put down.

In the New World, Todd Hewitt is the last boy in “The Knife of Never Letting Go” by Patrick Ness. Todd lives in Prentisstown, a futuristic town on another planet, where boys become men at age 13 and all of the women have died off from a disease released by the native race, the Speckle. Another effect of the disease allowed the people on The New World to hear the thoughts of all living beings.

Before Todd turns into a man, his adoptive parents, Ben and Cillian, send him away into the swamp where he is then attacked by the town’s preacher, Aaron. As luck would have it, Aaron is attacked by crocodiles. As he is running away, Todd finds a place where there is no Noise. After learning that a girl is causing this void, Todd teams up with her to escape to Haven where there could be a cure for the Noise and a transmitter to warn others in space about the dangers of this planet.

“The Knife of Never Letting Go” is a great book with plot twists, adventure and lots of violence. The two main characters must go through so much. The characters are strong, and rounded and serve a purpose in the story.
I enjoyed “The Knife of Never Letting Go” and went out to get the sequel as fast as I could. I recommend this book to fans of the action and adventure genre.
