Senior Penelope Revelo maintains her busy schedule with a positive attitude, making sure to use her time effectively.

Senior Penelope Revelo seems to juggle it all. She is an ambassador and host for foreign exchange students, a costume designer for school musicals and a girl scout. In addition to that, she has received the Spring Cypress Junior Scholarship and has been accepted to the University of Texas to study costume design.

“I found out about the Spring Cypress Junior Scholarship through my counselor,” Revelo said. “They interview the first 20 people who apply and I was one of them. It’s basically an organization trying to keep youth involved with community service.”

Penelope has worked for her Gold Award since she began participating in girl scouts 14 years ago. She received it last April and is still involved, taking on leadership positions and selling cookies.

“There aren’t too many other girls my age but I’ve known some of them since I was little,” she said. “I’ve been president before and once you get older, you are able to plan events and become the leader.”

As an ambassador, Penelope is able to meet many new people and learn about other cultures.

“I had a great experience with an exchange student last year,” she said. “It was eye-opening because we would go to events and chat with people from different places around the world such as China, India and Europe.”

It was not until Penelope’s sophomore year that she became passionate about costume design.

“When I worked on costumes for the musical “The Odd Couple” it was the most creative freedom I’ve ever had,” she said. “I loved the whole experience and watching how it transformed the actors.”

Theatre teacher Robin Welch Wood has known Penelope for seven years. She said there is no doubt in her mind that Penelope will be successful.

“Penny is a cheerful young lady, but when it’s time to get down to business, she is very serious and definitely goal-oriented,” she said. “I foresee her doing lots of wonderful designs in college theater and then moving on into professional work, either in live theater, in TV or film.”

Penelope’s school counselor Laura Castillo believes that she will be successful in whatever she wants to accomplish because she is passionate and works hard in everything she pursues.

“Penelope has devoted countless hours to theater and community service while maintaining good grades in her classes,” she said. “She has worked hard, and her hard work has paid off.”
