Varsity baseball beats Cedar Ridge 9-6, wins area title
The Varsity Baseball team trailed by four in the seventh, but Jason Helms was able to capture the lead back with a walk-off grand slam in the seventh, spurring the Klein Collins Tigers Varsity to a 9-6 win in seven innings over Cedar Ridge at Weimar on Saturday.
With the Tigers trailing by just one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, Helms came to the plate and hit a grand slam, bringing home Jake Jarvis, Austin Finnigan, and Jacob Rodriguez.
Helms racked up four RBIs on one hit for the team.
Earlier, in the bottom of the second, the Tigers took an early lead over Cedar Ridge, 2-0. Mikey Tanner got things going for the Klein Collins Tigers Varsity with a single. Then moved Tanner from second to third. Jared Huber singled, plating Tanner. The Klein Collins Tigers Varsity pushed more runs across when Windsor scored on an RBI single by Joel Rodriguez.
The Varsity Baseball team scored seven runs in just the seventh inning. The Tigers will go on to play Kingwood in the 5A Regional Quarterfinals for Region 4.
