Senior Elyse Shaw is this week’s featured athlete. As the setter of the varsity volleyball team, Shaw is seen as a leader.

“The setter is pretty much the quarterback of the court,” Shaw said. “I have to be a leader for my girls. I also have to always be aware of my surroundings.”

Shaw recently committed to East Texas Baptist University to play. This has been a major achievement for her and a long term goal that has now been completed.

“This is a big relief for me, now that I’m committed,” she said. “I have been waiting for this, and now that it’s here; I couldn’t be more excited.”

With the burning passion she has for volleyball, Shaw continues to exceed expectations and limitations. Each practice and game she continued to get better. According to Shaw, without the support and love of her teammates, she would not have gone so far.

“I couldn’t be where I am today without my girls,” Shaw said. “They make me who I am, and they make me better. They never let me down and never let me lose focus; my team has not only helped me become a better volleyball player, but a better person.”
