Art students attended the Visual Art Scholastic Event at Bryan High School on April 5 and 6, with seven students earning medals for their art.
“At VASE the student’s artwork gets critiqued by judges while they speak about their piece in a seven-minute interview,” art teacher Mike Hall said. “After, the judges pick the pieces to put into a gallery that goes to the state event.”
About 25,000 students participated in the regional competition this year. With the average of only ten percent of students from each school advancing to state, the school had 25 percent advance.
“We had eight works of art and seven art students who qualified for state,” Hall said. “At state their artwork is judged at a state level, and if the students get a superior rating then they receive a gold seal.”
The students who were chosen to attend state were seniors Jennifer Padilla, Margot Prewitt, Kaylon Membreno and Grace Followell, junior Megan Prokop, sophomore Colton Evers and freshman Rebekah Rodriguez.
