Katrina Machetta

Katrina Machetta, Editor-in-Chief

Katrina serves as Editor-in-Chief for Legacy Press.  She also serves as Poet-in-Residence for the Heritage Society. She is a reporter/contributor for several publications, including Los Angeles Times, PBS Newshour, Youth Journalism International, Stanford Daily News, Navajo-Hopi Observer, Yale Daily News, STEM Magazine, YR Media, Faithfully Magazine, Auteur Magazine, and Habitat for Humanity News. An avid community leader, she serves as Teen Court Advocate for underrepresented youth at the City of Houston’s Municipal Courts, President and Communications Director for Miss STEM International, President of Creative Writing Club, Co-founder of Auteur Magazine, Student Leader of Klein ISD Family Serves, Founder of Crafting Connections, Student Leader of Lonestar High School Leadership, Superintendent’s Student Leadership Council, and Teen Council Board Member of the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston (CAMH).

She is the 2021 Grand Slam Champion of the City of Houston’s Space City Poetry Slam Series and has directed her poetic and journalistic life towards service to the community. She recited poetry at the Suffragists 100th-year Commemoration of women’s voting rights, the International premiere of the human rights Exhibit --Mandela: Struggle for Freedom at the Holocaust Museum,  the Juneteenth celebration, the 185th anniversary of Houston’s founding, Jackie Robinson’s Astros game, among others. She seeks to have her work ignite compassion, urgency, and passion to make a positive difference.
